Estaca de Bares

Estaca de Bares

I'm finally standing on Spain's most northern point, Estaca de Bares, it's spectacular.  The cliffs fall away into a vibrantly blue Atlantic, sparkling in the sun, the wind is up and a few solitary seabirds twist and turn in the air.

Turning from the ocean to face south and before me is the whole Iberian peninsula, suddenly I can see the whole route, from verdant galicia, through the flatlands of Castilla- Leon, down into the heat of Extramadura, before reaching Andalucia, Seville and then finally back to the Atlantic ocean at Cadiz, with a final trot down the beach to journey's end at Tarifa.

But all that lies well ahead, for now it's time to take the first step...
